Inkami Tattoo guide
How to design your own tattoo
You don't need to draw to design your own tattoo. You need a clear idea, good building blocks and a way to check the result on your skin before you book. This guide walks you through it, using Inkami as the example studio.
1. Start with meaning, then style
Write down what the tattoo should say about you in one sentence. A wolf can mean loyalty, a rose can mean love or loss, a line of calligraphy can hold a name or a prayer.
Then pick a style: fine line, blackwork, tribal, dotwork, realism or ornamental. Style decides how much shading you need and how well the tattoo ages.
2. Build it from real tattoo elements
In the Inkami studio you open the Elements and Templates libraries and choose from thousands of tattoo-ready pieces — animals, skulls, flowers, sacred geometry, lettering and more.
Drag them onto the artboard, then resize, rotate, mirror and layer them. Add your own text or upload your own sketch. Nothing is generated by AI: every line comes from real artwork you choose and arrange.
3. Keep it simple enough to tattoo
Small details close together blur as skin ages. Leave space between lines, avoid tiny text under about 1 cm, and prefer bold outlines for small pieces.
Switch the preview to Line to see exactly which lines will go on the stencil. If it looks crowded there, it will look crowded on skin.
4. Try it on your body
Open Try on Body, place the design on a body photo or your own photo, and bend or wrap it to follow the skin. Check size and position from a distance, the way other people will see it.
5. Hand it to your tattoo artist
Export a true-size, 300 DPI stencil, or send your artist a private link with the artwork, the Line stencil, the Detailed shading guide and the body preview. Your artist will still adapt it to your anatomy — that is their skill, and it is why a real artist always does the final work.
Design it yourself, then send it to your artist
Inkami is a free online tattoo design studio. It is not an AI image generator — you build your design yourself from thousands of real tattoo elements, preview it on your body, and export a print-ready stencil for your tattoo artist.
